I.Background of the Proposal
1. Countries or regions such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, southern India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Central America, Caribbean countries, coastal areas of Brazil, Colombia, and equatorial coasts of Africa are prone to the following hazards during long-term operation of controllers due to high temperatures, humidity, and salt spray:


    • Internal condensation, circuit board moisture and short circuit

    • Terminal oxidation and poor contact

    • Insulation degradation, protection misoperation/refusal to operate

2. In countries or regions such as Russia's inland areas (Moscow, most of Siberia), Mongolia, Kazakhstan's inland areas, Canada's inland areas (Alberta, Saskatchewan), and the northern inland areas of the United States (Montana, North Dakota), temperatures may drop as low as -20 ℃ to -40 ℃, and controller operation is prone to the following hidden dangers:


    • LCD black screen, abnormal display

    • Capacitor and battery capacity decrease or fail

    • The circuit board is becoming brittle, and the failure rate is soaring

    • Switch refusal or misoperation

    • The device cannot start normally and runs unstably

3. Countries or regions such as the Nordic coast (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark), the Baltic States, the Russian Far East coast (Vladivostok, Sakhalin Island, Kamchatka), Japan (Hokkaido, northern Honshu), western Canada (Vancouver area), northwestern United States (Washington state, Oregon), United Kingdom, Ireland, Scotland, northern France, Netherlands, Belgium, northern Germany, southern New Zealand, southern Chile, and Patagonia coast of Argentina have cold winters, high humidity, freezing rain, heavy condensation, and salt spray. At the same time, they have the characteristics of low temperature and high humidity. The controller is prone to all the above hidden dangers during long-term operation.

II. Solution
      Install heating and dehumidification controllers inside the cabinet to achieve automatic linkage, anti condensation, and anti salt spray (to remove fog and dry salt)
Characteristics of intelligent dehumidification module:


    • Semiconductor condensation dehumidification, active drainage

    • Small size, low power consumption, maintenance free

    • Suitable for small spaces inside FTU boxes

    • Anti salt spray, moisture-proof, and flame-retardant design

    • Real time collection of humidity inside the box (0~99% RH), with an error of ± 3% RH, fast response

      Features of intelligent heating module:


    • PTC constant temperature heating, safe and non self igniting

    • Power: 10W~100W can be selected according to the cabinet space

    • Low temperature automatic heating, automatic constant temperature when the temperature meets the standard

    • Anti condensation, anti freezing, and anti low temperature failure

III.Precautions

  • The heating plate should not be too close to the control part

  • The water guide pipe must be smoothly downward without bending or lifting, otherwise the water cannot be discharged and will accumulate in the cabinet

  • The recommended humidity setting range is 45%~65% RH. If it is too low, it will cause the controller to be too dry inside, resulting in static electricity generation. If it is too high, it is easy for water vapor to accumulate

  • The recommended temperature setting is to start heating up at 5 ℃. If the temperature is too low, it may cause delayed heating and have an impact, while if it is too high, it may result in unnecessary energy consumption

The left image shows a temperature and humidity controller, which is equipped with an internal fan and condenser plate to condense the absorbed moisture, and then drain it through the bottom drainage pipe. The right image shows an aluminum heating plate. When a low temperature is detected, the heating plate heats up, raising the internal temperature of the controller while keeping it above the dew point to ensure no condensation or freezing.

V. Program effectiveness

  1. After using the above scheme, the controller can operate for up to 7 years in low-temperature countries such as Russia and Mongolia without any impact caused by low temperatures.

  2. After using the above scheme, the controller can operate for up to 10 years in high humidity countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Central America, and coastal Colombia, without any impact caused by high humidity.
