Prefabricated Power Distribution Unit Solution for Data Centers

The Rockwell Energy data center prefabricated power distribution unit integrates medium-voltage incoming lines, transformers, and low-voltage distribution into a factory-tested steel frame.

It supports N+1 redundant operation with dual transformers and dual low-voltage sections, enabling rapid scalability as the data center is commissioned in phases. Its open-frame design facilitates easy inspections and reduces fault-repair time.

Prefabricated Power Distribution Unit Solution for Data Centers

I. Why Data Center Power Distribution Needs Prefabrication

  • The electrical link is long (medium voltage → transformer → low voltage → rack), resulting in a lengthy on-site installation period and numerous concurrent operations.
  • Phased commissioning requires capacity to scale incrementally with IT workload.
  • High-density data centers have stringent requirements for power supply continuity and maintainability; any single point of failure must be controllable.

IV. Engineering Configuration and Reliability Design

  • N+1 redundancy switching logic: Two transformers + two low-voltage sections operating in segregated mode, serving as mutual backups; when one section is under maintenance, the other section carries the entire load. The switching logic has been factory-verified.
  • Fire Protection and Safety: Dry-type transformers are preferred (no oil-related risks, compliant with IEC 60076-11); oil-immersed transformer solutions feature oil tanks linked to fire protection systems; temperature monitoring devices are installed on busbars.
  • Communication and Monitoring: Remote measurement, remote signaling, and remote control for the entire substation; IEC 61850 / Modbus integration with environmental monitoring and DCIM systems; alarm correlation and linkage.
  • Installation method: Outdoor open-type (natural air cooling) or indoor/container-type (selected based on site conditions).

Six: Why Choose Rockwell Energy?

  • Redundant logic factory validation: The dual-transformer, dual-segment switching logic has undergone joint commissioning at the factory, ensuring zero commissioning risks on-site.
  • Fire compliance upfront: Dry-type and oil-immersed transformer solutions should be selected in advance according to the data center’s fire safety requirements, thereby avoiding secondary modifications.
  • Digital foundation: The 61850/Modbus point table is delivered along with the equipment, minimizing the workload for dynamic environmental integration.
  • Rapid capacity expansion: Phased construction with modular replication; single-point commissioning does not affect ongoing operations.
